What Type of Air Conditioner Do You Need?

November 7, 2019 by Shaznay Logan

Many people reach the point where they cannot deal with the peculiarities of their aging air conditioner system. Every system gets to the point where an air conditioner service in Perth, simply won’t get things running well, and it’s time to think about a replacement. This can be a difficult decision, we rely on our AC systems, and it’s important to get the right type of air conditioner to keep your home comfortable all year round. In this article, we will look at some of the popular AC system types in more detail to help you make a more informed choice.

Reverse Cycle Air Conditioning

For most homes, an AC system that has reverse cycle air conditioning is a sound choice. There are different types of AC systems that can operate in this way, and there are some affordable choices if you’re on a stricter budget. Essentially, a reverse cycle air conditioner can be operated in two directions, forwards and in reverse. This means that they can cool and heat your home, and they are very energy efficient in both modes. This is a great way to get the best bang for your buck, and your energy bills will be lower than you might imagine. Let’s take a look at some air conditioner types.

The Split System

As the name would suggest, a split system has two separate parts that work together to cool or heat your indoor air. There is an indoor and outdoor unit; they are connected by pipes that carry a pressurised refrigerant gas. Contrary to popular opinion, an air conditioner doesn’t cool the air down, the system moves heat out of the home, and this makes the indoor space feel cooler. If the system is operated in reverse, cool air is removed, and heat is brought into the home for effective heating. The split system is, without a doubt, the most popular air conditioner type in Australia, and they are a sound choice for any open plan space or room that’s smaller than 60sqm.

The Multi-Split

This type of air conditioning system is very similar to a split system. But, in this system, the outdoor unit is actually connected to more than one indoor unit. This means that a single system can be used to cool or heat multiple rooms or spaces at the same time. This is a great choice if you have several rooms located near each other in an apartment, duplex or smaller house. If the home is larger, it’s usually a better option to install a ducted system instead.

The Ducted System

This is a centrally located air conditioning system that supplies treated air to every space or room in the home via a network of ducts. The ductwork is often located behind walls, in attic space, or in a basement to keep the spaces tidy. A vent in each room delivers the treated air, which is pushed throughout the home with a powerful fan. A sensor in each room and a thermostat is used to set the temperature to the desired level easily.
