Would you say that you are someone who likes to help out those in need? For many of us the truth is that as much as we would like to, we can often forget or put up barriers as to why we aren’t able to help. There is nothing wrong with this of course, life can get busy and things can slip our minds or seem to much to take on. If however you have a good heart and you want to help people who are less fortunate, there are many ways in which you can do exactly that, and here are just a few of them.
Financial Donations
Financial donations are absolutely vital to many organizations and services out there who require these funds to help the people who they have committed to support. In fact a good friend of mine works for the wonderful Interactive Services in Sydney, who support people who have intellectual disabilities, I know first hand that without cash donations they would struggle to offer the fantastic service which they provide for so many. The donation value is completely up to you and you can even set up a direct debit so that it is paid every month without fail, leaving you feeling great and offering wonderful help.
Time
Charities often can’t afford to pay their staff, beyond the management level at least, and that means that they rely on as many kind-hearted hands as they can get. Regardless of whether you are able to give up a day each week to work in a charity store, a couple of hours per month to fundraise or even some time every now and then to support an event. Any time that you are able to give will be massively appreciated and it will also give you a great sense of giving something back. It doesn’t matter what skills you have, there is always something which you can do to help.
Donating Goods
When was the last time that you had a good clear out of old toys and games, clothes and household items? If you are anything like me then that will likely have been a long time ago and that means that you could have money sitting around the house. Instead of spending a day on eBay getting rid of stuff why not round it up and take it to your local charity store. Charity shops rely solely on donations and the better products you can give them, the more money that they can make.
Shopping
It is not just giving that can help those less fortunate but also buying and if you chose to shop in stores which make donations or buy products which help others then you can also be doing your bit. Take the shoe company Toms for example, for every pair of shoes sold they donate a pair which means that you can do great work simply through buying a great product.
These are just some of the ways in which you can do your bit to help out others, and there are many, many more, why not start today?
