How to Move Forward After a Difficult Birth

February 13, 2019 by Shaznay Logan

Giving birth is difficult at the best of times. Sometimes, however, certain complications arise to make the whole process even more troublesome, and even, upon occasion, traumatic.

If you are ever unfortunate enough to endure a particularly challenging birth, in the aftermath of the event, you’re going to feel like your whole world has been turned upside down. For the sake of yours and your newborn’s health and future development, however, you have to find a way to move forward.

Here are a few things that you can do to do just that:

Accept your new reality

The only way you can move forward in life is to accept your new reality for what it is. There’s no use dwelling on what has happened or how different everything could or maybe should have been. You have to accept your life for what it now is.

To do this, you should know what symptoms you are likely to experience. These symptoms include:

  • Having flashbacks to your time in labor
  • Feeling anxious about the prospect of giving birth again
  • Considering yourself to be a failure
  • A lack of self-esteem
  • Anger regarding what you did or didn’t do during labor
  • Not wanting to talk about childbirth with anyone, even your midwife
  • Finding bonding with your newborn to be a difficult task
  • Feeling unable to talk about your experience
  • A lack of desire to be intimate with your partner

If you feel that you experience any of these symptoms, you should consider yourself to be a struggling new mother. Once you accept that this is the case, it will be easier for you to seek the ongoing support that you are going to need going forward,

Seek the right kind of help

Knowing that you need help is one thing, but knowing who to turn to for this help is a completely different thing entirely. There will be a lot of people willing and wanting to support you, but not everybody, no matter how well-intentioned they are, will be able to provide you with the assistance that you need. In this instance, it’s imperative that you get the exact kind and amount of support, as that is the only way you are going to move forward healthily.

If you feel that your difficult birth was a result of a mistake on your doctor’s part, for instance, then it’s vitally important that you seek help from an attorney that specializes in medical malpractice. By sharing the burden of claiming with a professional lawyer, such as the personal injury attorney Rock Hill Lewis Law Firm, you will not only not have to worry about not receiving the compensation that you deserve, but you will also be able to focus your efforts on getting better. You have to choose the support that is actually going to help you in your quest to move forward, not hinder you.

Moving forward after a difficult birth may feel like an impossible task, but it can be done if you follow the above advice.
