No matter where we turn, we seem to be surrounded by bad news. This is hard on the mind, and it is all too easy to start to feel depressed. This is why Geoffrey Morell believes it is so important to develop a positive mental attitude. Doing so will help us ride through any difficulties that come our way, be they personal, political, economic, educational, or of any other nature.
Geoffrey Morell Explains Positive Thinking
One of the easiest ways to get out of a negative spiral, is to switch off the news. All the television and media seem to want to do, is spread fear. Fear, anxiety, stress – they are all negative emotions that will only attract more negativity towards you. Remember that things that give you happiness instead. Things such as your family, your pets, your friends, and your activities.
Sometimes, it seems easier said than done to remain positive. The Great Recession showed that more than anything. People continuously stayed positive, believing that since they still had their job, they were safe, only to be made redundant several weeks later. People believed they had written an appropriate hardship letter to their mortgage provider, only to be faced with a foreclosure notice.
But what this taught people, at the same time, is that things happen for a reason. There were those who were forced to move into their car and saw it as virtually the end of the world. But then there were those who saw it as an opportunity to pack up and go, to explore other parts of the country and find a different location where they could rebuild their lives.
Since the Great Recession, there have been numerous other national and global disasters that make us feel there is nothing good out there. The war in Syria, Brexit, the inauguration of President Donald Trump, countless terrorist attacks; the list is endless. Yet, the reality is that, where one door closes, another opens.
Morell believes in the Law of Attraction. This essentially states that those who think positive thoughts attract positive actions towards them. Those who look at a disaster but can think something good, seeing, for instance, the kindness and humanity that often come with it, are usually also people who have far greater happiness levels. Thinking positive does not stop bad things from happening. What it does, however, is stop those bad things from taking over full control of our lives.
There are numerous ways to develop a positive mindset. Some easy to follow tips are to create picture boards of what you want your life to be like and to write motivational quotes on post-it notes in various key locations. But more than anything, it is important to wake up every morning and think about something positive. To wake up with a smile is enough to energize you full of positivity for the rest of the day. It is such a simple thing to do, with such a huge impact, that it seems a waste to not at least try it.
