Free Activities for You and the Kids in Orlando

December 26, 2017 by Shaznay Logan

Are you wanting to take the family out for some fun but you’re strapped for cash? There are plenty of fun free activities awaiting you and the family in Orlando, Florida. Spending your savings at Disney World isn’t the only way to have a good time in the city. Check out these 7 amazing ways to entertain the fam without worrying about having to get fast cash or take out title loans in Orlando.

1. Head to Old Town

If you’ve never been to Old Town, it’s time to treat yourself. The shopping plaza and amusement park is designed to feel like you are walking back in time to the 1950s. It’s free to be there with plenty of cool things to see. From retro car shows to tons of cool shops to explore, Old Town is a gem of a place.

2. Stroll Through Big Tree Park

This is a great spot to take the family and enjoy a stroll, a picnic, and learn a little bit about the history of the park. There are some truly giant trees in this park that you won’t want to miss. Even with it’s largest tree recently burned down (a 3,500 year-old cypress tree), this is still a wondrous patch of nature worth exploring.

3. Check Out Disney Springs

Want to experience some Disney, but don’t have the means to take the kids to Disney World? Here is a great (and FREE) alternative. Disney Springs is like a mini-Disney World with shops, entertainment, and restaurants along the lake. It’s a lively place filled with music and Disney fun. Take your kids to the LEGO store for some hands-on entertainment.

4. See the Sights in Celebration, Florida

Located right outside of Disney World is the little town of Celebration. Designed to be the “perfect city,” the whole place is picturesque and designed to feel like you are walking into a movie. There is a cute shopping center with boutiques, restaurants, and lots more. Throughout the year, they have many public events like parades and holiday entertainment for all ages to enjoy.

5. Black Hammock Adventures

If you want to see some gators, take a trip to the Black Hammock Adventures. Although it costs quite a pretty penny to take a trip on their airboat rides, you can still enjoy the wildlife at no cost. On Sundays, they let people view the gators being fed for free. They also have a restaurant and bar attached with cheap and yummy grub like freshly fried catfish.

6. Harry P. Leu Gardens

On the first Monday of every month, Harry P. Leu Gardens opens up it’s beautiful landscapes to the public for free. You can explore their butterfly gardens, take a stroll through the palm trees, and explore nearly 50 acres of nothing but tropical paradise. They also host outdoor movie nights and engaging horticulture workshops for the kids.
