With November well and truly set in and Christmas just around the corner, it can be a bit of a stressful time with the holidays coming up. Those gift lists are getting longer and longer by the day and soon you realise you have more people to buy for than you ever expected. Perhaps you and your family take the more finance-conscious route and do Secret Santa instead. Either way, knowing what to get grown up children can be daunting, so we’ve put together this short guide to buying gifts for your grown kids that will help you nail it this year.
Excursions
Excursions or days out are a hugely popular thing to give that person who has everything as well as adult children. Depending on what they like to do in their spare time you can get them anything from high tea at a local posh hotel for two all the way up to hot air balloon rides or driving an expensive sports car at the local racetrack. Spa days at country hotels are popular options as well, allowing your son or daughter the opportunity to unwind in a luxury hotel in the country – something they’d be unlikely to ever buy for themselves. Check out the likes of Red Letter Days for ideas on great days out that you can buy for anyone in the family from eight to eighty.
Tickets To An Event
Event tickets are another great gift idea for the adult child in your life. Concerts, workshops, talks, comedy shows or local theatrical plays are great ideas for almost anyone. Cinema tickets also work a treat too and allow your grown up children the opportunity to get a night out. You could go one further and offer to watch the grandkids that night as part of the gift as well! Try to bring up the topic at your next coffee date with your child and see if there’s a comedian, band, singer, or event coming up in the next three to six months that they’d love to get tickets to but aren’t sure about and then go from there!
Food, Food, Food!
Does your grown up child have a favourite restaurant or are they a fan of learning how to cook new things? Why not sign them up for a neat new cooking class or buy them vouchers to their favourite restaurant for Christmas? Cooking classes are all the rage these days, and with Waitrose running their own, you can even get them a posh class to go to! Whether they want to learn to bake, cook a full turkey dinner or they just want to do it for fun, it’s a great idea and a great experience they will treasure for years to come! They might even cook you something they learned, so it’s a win-win!
Adult children can be hard to buy for, but they don’t have to be. With experiences often trumping material things, it’s a great time to look at what they’d love to do but often don’t bother with due to time constraints and commitments. What better way to tell them you love them than by getting them something they’d love to do – and maybe even helping them with time off from the kids? Merry Christmas!
