According to Haris Ahmed Chicago is the place to be. It may have a reputation for being very expensive, but he believes it is all about knowing where to go. We all know someone who paid $15 for a vanilla milkshake there, so it is about knowing where you can go and not be charged to the end of the world for simple things. Because Ahmed loves Chicago so much, and he is from the block of Removille himself, he felt it was about time to let people know where they can go on a shoestring and still have a good time.
Haris Ahmed Chicago Accommodation
First of all, most of the main tourist and cultural attractions are in Downtown Chicago, with most hotels also there. Did you know, however, that you often still have to pay for parking on top of your room fees? The cost is, on average, $35 per night. Hence, it is best to find somewhere else to sleep, preferably just outside of the block. There is lots of good accommodation available outside of the Downtown area that is affordable and has free parking, as well as good links to the public transportation network.
Next, you need to eat. The women of Chicago are known for their amazing cuisine. What you should be looking for, therefore, is something local. Forget about the glitzy restaurants all over town and turn into a little side street instead. Of course, you absolutely have to eat pizza in Chicago, which is where the Chicago Town Pizza comes from. The food in Chicago is amazing and if you take the time to look around before you settle for somewhere to eat, you should be able to have something good, authentic, and tasty. Don’t be tempted by the fast food joints, therefore, as there is good food to be had.
Last but not least, you need to figure out what to do on a budget when you are in Chicago. You will be happy to know that there are lots of highly affordable attractions around. If you want to experience a bit of real culture, the Adler Planetarium, the Shedd Aquarium, and the Field Museum are not to be missed. Lots of the greatest institutions in Chicago have free entry, particularly during the winter months. If you are in Chicago during the summer, when attractions are more expensive, then you can buy your tickets from the Best Western River North at discounted rates, even if you aren’t sleeping there.
Do also make time for a visit to the Millennium Park, the newest of the various attractions in Chicago and completely free all year long. The Park cost $475 million to build, and almost all of the money was raised from members of the community. It opened in 2006 and it covers some 24.5 acres of land in the middle of Downtown Chicago. Best of all, you can visit the world’s largest rooftop garden here, as well as Anish Kapoor art and Frank Gehry architecture.
